Instructor Rules
Qualifications & Expertise:
Subject Matter Expertise: Deep knowledge and understanding of the subject you intend to teach.
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree is often preferred or required, though some platforms allow teaching with relevant certifications or experience (e.g., TEFL for English). A master’s degree may be needed for college-level teaching.
Teaching Experience: Prior teaching experience, whether in traditional classrooms or online, is highly beneficial.
Certifications: Depending on the subject and platform, certifications like TEFL (for English as a Foreign Language) or state teaching licenses might be necessary.
Technical Requirements:
Reliable Internet Connection: A stable and fast internet connection (preferably wired) is crucial for live sessions.
Appropriate Hardware: A functional laptop or desktop computer with a good webcam and a noise-canceling headset with a microphone.
Basic Software Proficiency: Familiarity with online learning platforms (LMS like Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard), video conferencing tools (Zoom, Google Meet), and other digital educational tools.
Backup Power/Data: Recommended to have backup power (UPS) and a data plan in case of outages.
Teaching Skills & Practices:
Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to convey ideas clearly, provide feedback, and engage students.
Organizational Skills: Ability to plan lessons, manage time effectively, and keep track of student progress in a virtual environment.
Engagement & Interaction: Create interactive and engaging lessons using various digital materials and activities (discussions, group projects, etc.).
Adaptability & Flexibility: Be able to adjust teaching methods to suit the online environment and diverse learning styles.
Presence & Accessibility: Establish a strong online presence and be available for student questions and support.
Clear Expectations: Clearly communicate course objectives, expectations, deadlines, and grading criteria to students.
Feedback & Assessment: Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and utilize various online assessment methods.
Professionalism: Maintain a professional online presence and adhere to ethical guidelines and privacy policies.
